Hot stone massage at Elvara Spa costs AED 700 for 60 minutes and AED 900 for 90 minutes. The therapist uses smooth volcanic stones, heated and then placed on the body and used as an extension of the hands. It is one of the most relaxing treatments on our menu, available daily from 11:00 to 01:00 at Royal M Hotel by Gewan in Al Bateen.
Volcanic stones hold heat well. They are heated to a comfortable temperature, then some are laid along the spine, on the palms or between the shoulder blades, while others are held in the therapist's hands and glided over oiled skin. The warmth softens muscles faster than hands alone, so the therapist can work deeper without pressing harder.
The stones feel warm, heavy and very calming, and they should never be hot enough to sting. If one does, say so and it will be moved or cooled. Most guests find they drift off partway through.
Guests who feel cold or tense, people who carry stress in their shoulders, and anyone who likes firm pressure but does not want deep tissue. It is a good choice in heavily air-conditioned offices and homes. If you like warmth but prefer oil to stones, compare it with our hot candle massage and hot oil massage.
Heat treatments are not recommended during pregnancy, with high blood pressure, varicose veins, diabetes with reduced sensation, or on sunburnt skin. If any of these apply, tell us when booking and we will suggest a different treatment. Our guide hot stone massage: what to expect has more detail.
